Colt had his first taste of veggies.....this week featuring: PEAS! He wasn't too sure what was happening but at least he didn't cry!

Getting Stronger!

Colt' s head control is getting so much better, just in a few days time. Since Friday when his teacher showed me how to do "baby-situps" with him, we've done a few rounds over the weekend and she said she saw a huge improvement since she saw him Friday. So we'll keep it up, and hopefully show his pediatrician that he isn't behind at our next visit in 2 weeks! He gets to start veggies on Wednesday, so I'll be sure to take lots of funny photos of that introduction. Tabitha came to see us today, and we had a really nice time visiting with her!!

Nap Make-up Day

Colt made up for lost nap-time today and slept all day...hopefully the nap-refusal is over!!

Crankiness Continues............

Who doesn't like a good nap? Apparently Colt. He's on day two of boycotting napping. He inherited the "turn into a monster if I don't sleep" gene from me. He slept fantastic at night so I guess I shouldn't really complain, but he gets pretty whiny and mad during the day without his naps. His teacher came today and played with him. We did lots of baby sit-ups for neck control.

Colt is three months old today....by his adjusted age :)

Mr. Cranky Pants

It started out as a good day, had a nice walk......but the afternoon turned cranky. Man did Colt have a nap-aversion, which then turned him into a zombie. He got himself so worked up, he didn't wanna eat, sleep, play- nothing! He fought sleep like his life depended on it! Glad this day is coming to a close.....where is the wine?

Chillin' Out

Today we just chilled at home....something new. No appointments or anything, so it is nice to not have to be anywhere or do anything in particular. We just did our exercises for neck control. This kid is so intent on kicking while on his belly, he's starting to make tummy time kind of a problem! How can you work your neck muscles if your legs won't stop going........I have to hold his bum down in order for it to kind of work. We're gonna try working on a wedge when he wakes up from his nap, the PT said the wedge helps since he won't have gravity working against him. Next week our fabulous nurse Tabitha from Children's will be coming to see us again, and we love her visits!

Children's hospital ended their RSV season last week and is now letting visitors come in again, so that is a positive sign for the bug season ending. I'm gonna call the pediatrician next week and see how we're looking for sick people.

There is a company who makes your blog into a book.....so I think I will keep on blogging until at least a year maybe longer. I can skip the baby book and have this put into a book for us to embarass him with when he's older!

Double Fisting

Colt is starting to reach out and grab things....he couldn't decide what to grab here so he went for them both. We saw the physical therapist and she says he is doing great. She has a few things for me to work with him on, and says she'll evaluate him in one month again to see if we can get an improvement in head control.

We've long thought that Colt bears the closest resemblance to Kreg's Grandpa.......and when I saw this photo of Colt- I immediately thought of Grandpa McCoy.

The good looks had to come from somewhere :)

Colt met with his teacher today and she was impressed with his neck control. I have to say he has made an improvement in the last few days. It is pretty crazy how fast they learn how to do things. Last week his head was so weak (and I was starting to worry again) and now he seems like he is on a mission to control that huge melon of his. Looks like hard work too!

Tomorrow we see his fabulous physical therapist. I love going to physical therapy actually, she's always so positive and excited to see him!

Colt used to HATE his stroller and he's been fantastic the last two days in it. He just chills now, whereas before it was a scream-fest. The car seat is getting a little better too. Hopefully he's growing out of of his hatred for confinement. I wonder if his sight is getting better and that is why he is more entertained in them now? He does seem to focus really well...and is getting close to laughing (I think). He smiles so much now, and actually lets out the occasional squeal with it, like a mini laugh. I'll try to catch it on video!

Lazy Day

We had a nice lazy day today. My Dad came out to visit, so those two played on the floor and Colt was given a rolling over lesson from my Dad. Tomorrow our teacher visits and Tuesday we have physical therapy. One piece of good news......Colt's eyes are such a pretty blue and we've been wondering if they'd stay that way, and I looked into when they stay and it's right about now. So hopefully he keeps the baby blues!

Can we do some praying? My friend just had her twins at 29 weeks...they're doing great and were in the neighborhood of three pounds. Let's pray for their NICU journey...that it's short, sweet and complication-less. Thank you!!

And for those of you who are counting....and I AM COUNTING...Mother's Day (ie. day of freedom) is just around the corner. Nervous and excited at the same time. I am so used to being a home creature now, I don't know if I remember how to behave in the real world?? Hopefully Colt does okay in his new world, as he is pretty cozy in the one we have now. I have been trying to take him on short jaunts, like to the mothership or Starbucks as most people call it, (drive-thru) or a walk. With hopes he can get accustomed to environments other than our house! I have become such a germ Nazi, I don't know how I will ever survive out at say Wal-Mart with him in tote. I see germs everywhere now, so instead of rose colored glasses, I see with germ colored glasses. I have anti-bacterial gel: in my car, in my purse, on my coffee table, at the sink, on my nightstand. It truly is a sickness now. I once had a lady walk up to him and grab his hands (a stranger) and I was "this close" to needing CPR. So as for my worries of becoming a neurotic mother........I would definitely say I have become my own worst nightmare. But to make myself feel better, I did get a pat on the back from his doctor about his health thus far. So crazy as I am, I guess it is working.

Obsession

This is my new obsession....trying to catch Colt smiling on camera.....fun stuff eh. We met with Colt's teacher today, and had fun with her as usual. His tracking skills are doing great....he followed Patricia's face all over the place, and I have been working with him and getting him to do it frequently. All that worrying for nothing! (And I am sure there is more where that came from..........stay tuned)

Talking and a comparison......

Baby talk here we come.....he's found his voice, so the noise has started to come more frequently. The burp cloth that Colt is laying on in this photo was the one he used as a comforter in the NICU early days. He used to stretch all the way out on it and still not fill it up! The top photo is him stretched out on that same burp cloth when he was two weeks old. I was burping him yesterday with that cloth and thought about how it was his blankie for so long. I washed it and slept with it about every other night so he would have our scent to sleep on in his incubator. He did great after the shots, slept through night as usual and is perfectly fine today.

They Poked Me Four Times!

This is me lounging after a tough morning of shots....

And this is my ticked off face........not too thrilled about this morning's activities.

Colt had to have four shots today, and man is that ever crappy to watch. But he's doing fine so far, a little cranky but that is to be expected. He weighed in at 11 lbs. 7 oz and he grew an inch since he last visit two weeks ago! He's 23 1/2 inches long now. I seriously can't believe that people give birth to babies that size, good God.

He gets to try veggies and fruits in two weeks, we'll increase the rice cereal for two more weeks and then see how he does with the spoon. She said if he isn't ready for the spoon we can cheat and put some in the bottles to fatten him up. He's almost weaned off of one of the reflux meds, so he'll just be on the one for the acid production. We've been moved to once a month for the doctor, which feels weird because we have gone in so many times in the past three months.

Colt is 11 weeks adjusted, so almost three months old. He's smiling a lot, kind of makes a laugh noise when he gets excited, is trying very hard to roll over, and lifts his big ol' head up for a few seconds when on his belly. Poor kid's head is so big he can hardly control it, but we're working on that! I can really notice a difference in his sight recently, he makes really great eye contact when he feels like it and stares at his toys now- where before he didn't seem all that interested.

She went over the charts with me, which to be honest I don't really understand all that percentile junk, but he's obviously not on the curve for his real age- he's super tiny compared to other 6 month old babies. But for his adjusted age, he is on the curve, still a little small but let's give the kid a break since he started out at 1 lb. 9 oz. He's gained 10 lbs!!

Dreading Tomorrow

Yuck! Shots tomorrow! 6 month immunizations......hope he does okay....poor guy gets poked a lot.No wonder he hates the car, he thinks everytime he gets in it- het gets poked.

Sweaty

Man, the new house is an oven. Colt and I sweated it out today in the 90 degree heat, trying to be conservative and not turn on the AC in April. Yuck! Gotta love old houses and how well they are insulated. Colt absolutely refused to nap today.........so maybe we'll fold on the AC issue tomorrow, made for a cranky mom and baby!

Meet the Cousins

Colt's cousins have been on spring break for two weeks which means they're not at school swapping germs with all the kids (at least that is what it means to me). So they came over to meet their cousin finally since everyone was healthy and the mystery of their cousin was probably getting old. Here are the pics. The video is of Colt, who I think is trying to tell me that he will be going straight to crawling and bypass the whole rolling over thing.

An outing and a tantrum

Here are my new favorite things to do....put my fists in my mouth (the entire fist), bring my legs up and eventually I will put my feet in my mouth, and clap my feet together!

I was too tired to post last night. I took Colt to my mom's house for a visit, his first visit to someone else's house. My mom has cats and he's never been near cats so we thought we'd test it out and see if he had any problems, and he did just great. My ped. said to start him out on a few visits for a few hours each and build up to make sure he doesn't have that allergy since his Dad does. He did great...until we got home. He never had any reaction to the cats but since he hates his carseat so much he screamed the whole way home, and then I could not calm him down for about an hour and a half. I played the baby guessing game: is he hungry, wet, tired, hot, cold, uncomfortable, getting a fever....etc. Nothing worked so I was freaking out that maybe he was starting to get sick like Kreg, but no fever or anything. Eventually he fell asleep, and then had a major "code brown" as the hospital called it, so I guess it was a tummy trouble. He's been fine ever since. It was like the exorcist........the tantrum that is. Must get it from his Dad.

This chart shows why we're still stuck at home.....as you can see it is getting better but still not good enough to get out!! One more month!! And it looks like Kreg is sick...sore throat.....bummer. Gotta keep him away from me and Colt!

Sleepy Day

Colt thought it was party time at 4am, which is not usual for him....must have been growth spurt because he ate like he has never eaten before in his life and has slept a lot today! His teacher visited, and she really is a great help. She plays with him and shows me what he is supposed to be doing for his age, and everything is as it should be!

We met with Colt's teacher again today, and he really seems to like her. He gets really smiley when she's here....it helps that she's so great with babies, she knows just how to talk to him. She said she is impressed with his neck strength so far and that he is doing really well!

Meeting our Teacher

We met Colt's teacher today, and she's really sweet. He even smiled a lot for her!! She just showed me some ways to encourage neck strength, and we talked about him and where he is at developmentally. She said he looks like he is doing perfect for his adjusted age of 9 weeks. She'll be here Mondays and Fridays for 45 minutes, and evaluate his progress until they decide he is caught up or until he is three- whichever comes first.
