Colt's Due Date

Today was Colt's due date. Today we can officially start counting his age for what they call "adjusted age" for preemies. Preemies have two ages, one being their birth age and the other being their adjusted or corrected age. Their birthday doesn't matter in terms of milestones until they turn two years of age or if they catch up faster than that. They usually give preemies (especially boys, as boys mature slower than girls....sorry boys that is a fact) extra time to hit their milestones since they weren't quite ready to be here. So starting today, they count it like he was just born in terms of baby milestones. This is because it isn't fair to expect Colt, who is almost 4 months old, to be compared to a term baby who is 4 months old.

Colt had a good day today. The eye doctor came to see him, and she said he could not have looked any better (yeah!!!) and that she won't need to see him every week based on how well he is doing. She will see him again in two weeks, and they said hopefully it will be an outpatient appointment. They bumped his feeds up a little bit so that he is at 6 bottles and 2 tube feeds. He took all of them, but they will still inch forward slowly. It has become quite the joke in the new NICU about when we will go home. I have had a few nurses who haven't been on in a few days say to me "YOU"RE STILL HERE!!!" No kidding.

By the way....6 lbs. 4 oz. now.

A day really worth celebrating!!
If it helps at all - I can recall (so long ago) when I'd feed Shannon the 1st few weeks. She'd always nod off after just a few minutes. I'd keep nudging her cheek and she'd finally finish a feeding after 45 minutes. It was sweet and special during the night to be able to hold her close, but oh how I wanted her to eat faster so I could catch some more zzzz's. Since Colt really is just at his 'real' birth age now, I imagine his feeding time and being able to stay awake while feeding will improve before too long. Love, Auntie Linda
