Wow today was nuts! So Colt was not supposed to get extubated (tube out) until tomorrow but during a re-tape of the ventilator tube, it slipped out so the consensus was -let's leave it out now and see what happens. Initially he did okay....he had it out for about an hour and a half. The last half hour got pretty rough, he was not having it. He was really mad and his vitals were all over the place. They ended up having to re-intubate him which was kind of a bummer but he just wasn't ready. They say this is normal, and that the only way to find out if he's ready is to give it a try. So they will put him on the steriods and give him more time to get ready to breathe on his own.
On a happy note, Kreg got to hold him for the first time. They say we can start holding him more frequently as long as he's doing well. And we also got a photo of his cute little face without all the tubes and tape. It was nice to see him for the first time without all that junk on there...damn he's cute!!
His head ultrasound was good, so they won't do another one for 2 weeks. They will just see how he does now on the vent and progress him down again on the vent and pressures, and let the steriods do their job before we give it another shot.
