Trip to the Neuro

We went to our home away from home yesterday, Children's hospital. It was oddly comforting to go back, we hadn't been back since we were discharged. We stopped by the NICU to say hi to Tabitha and a few other nurses. Most of our nurses weren't working, but we got to see Tabitha which is always awesome.

The neurologist was amazing. God forbid, if anyone ever needs a pediatric neuroligist- I have your guy. We already had this appointment pre-seizure to have him checked for cerebral palsy. So that was our first order of business. He said that based only on the fact that he had a brain bleed, that clinically means he will carry a CP diagnosis. The definition of CP is a brain injury causing some motor or cognitive delay or disability and since he is delayed this definition plays out for him. He did say it is so mild that it will not hinder him in any way. He said he'll be fine to walk independently, run, do activities, etc. Since he's responded so well to therapy, we need to conintue therapy to make sure he gets to his fullest potential. He grips the ground with his toes on his right foot, so we need to work that out in Physical Therapy. We start back tomorrow.

In regards to the seizure, he said that since he's had a brain injury we won't just chalk it up to a febrile seizure. Even though it was a seizure caused by a fever, he's sending us out for a full EEG to check the brain activity and make sure he is not at risk for it happening un-provoked by something. He also told me that we should try to rest and not hover too much, because it's extremely rare for a child to die of a seizure. Most come out fine, and even though he turned a little blue...that is the body's way of protecting the brain by stealing the oxygen from other parts of the body.

He seems almost entirely back to normal today. The low grade fever hasn't fully disappeared, but he is eating and acting like himself today- so that is great news!
